- The Methanol Institute (MI) has welcomed HIF Global, a leader in e-Fuels production, as its newest member.
- HIF Global produces e-Methanol, e-SAF, and e-Gasoline by combining renewable energy, green hydrogen, and CO₂ from various sources, addressing global decarbonization goals.
- The company operates HIF Haru Oni in Chile, the world’s first e-fuels facility, and is expanding globally with large-scale projects in the U.S., Australia, and South America.
The Methanol Institute (MI) welcomes HIF Global, a leader in sustainable e-fuel innovation, into its membership. By integrating renewable energy and advanced technology, HIF Global produces green hydrogen. It captures CO₂ to synthesize e-fuels like e-methanol, which are pivotal in decarbonizing transportation and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reports EIN News.
Innovative Approach to e-Fuels
HIF Global utilizes renewable energy to produce green hydrogen through electrolysis, combining it with captured CO₂ from atmospheric, biogenic, and industrial sources. These elements are synthesized into e-Fuels compatible with current transportation and industrial systems, including:
- e-Methanol: For ships and industrial use.
- e-SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel): For planes.
- e-Gasoline: For cars.
Scaling e-Fuels Globally
HIF Haru Oni in Magallanes, Chile, serves as the world’s first operational e-Fuels facility, inaugurated in December 2022. Building on this success, HIF Global is advancing projects in the U.S., Chile, Australia, Uruguay, and Brazil. Its flagship HIF Matagorda e-Fuels Facility in Texas is expected to produce 1.4 million metric tons of e-Methanol annually, showcasing its commitment to scaling sustainable fuel production.
Industry Collaboration and Vision
Greg Dolan, CEO of the Methanol Institute, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing HIF Global’s contributions to the energy transition and the growing role of e-Methanol in decarbonization efforts. Cesar Norton, President and CEO of HIF Global, highlighted the importance of e-Fuels in achieving a sustainable future and the value of collaboration with MI in advancing global adoption of e-Methanol solutions.
Driving the Energy Transition
As a member of MI, HIF Global will work with industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to promote methanol-based solutions and e-Fuels as critical elements of a low-carbon future. Together, they aim to inspire innovation, lower costs, and drive the energy transition forward.
