- HII and C3 AI partner to integrate artificial intelligence across shipbuilding operations at Newport News and Ingalls divisions.
- The collaboration aims to boost shipbuilding throughput, fleet readiness, and production efficiency through digital transformation.
- Successful AI deployment at Ingalls Shipbuilding will be scaled across HII’s shipyards.
Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), the largest military shipbuilder in the United States, has announced a strategic partnership with C3 AI, a leading enterprise AI application software provider. The collaboration aims to deploy advanced artificial intelligence solutions across HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding and Ingalls Shipbuilding divisions to increase shipbuilding throughput and meet the evolving needs of the U.S. Navy.
Enhancing Naval Readiness through AI Integration
According to Chris Kastner, CEO of HII: “Increasing shipbuilding throughput is a critical priority for HII and the U.S. Navy… We’re proud to partner with C3 AI to leverage data and digital capabilities like artificial intelligence in the urgent work of delivering ships to the U.S. Navy.”
The initiative expands on a prior six-month Enterprise AI deployment program at Ingalls Shipbuilding, where AI algorithms were used to optimize complex work schedules, resulting in notable improvements in schedule performance. The partnership will now scale these efforts across HII’s broader shipyard operations.
Strategic Impact and Operational Focus
The partnership will focus on applying AI to several key areas:
- Production planning and scheduling
- Supply chain optimization
- Labor allocation efficiency
- Operations streamlining
- Uncrewed vehicle production and sustainment
Thomas M. Siebel, Chairman and CEO of C3 AI, stated: “This collaboration underscores our growing role as a strategic provider to the U.S. government and defense sector… By deploying Enterprise AI, we are powering a modern, intelligent infrastructure to ensure America’s edge in naval readiness.”
The AI solutions are powered by the C3 Agentic AI Platform, and are expected to help reduce delays, enhance productivity, and meet the increasing demand for naval vessels such as amphibious ships, destroyers, aircraft carriers, and nuclear submarines.
A Leap Forward in Defense Industry Digitalization
The alliance is seen as a significant advancement in digitizing the U.S. defense industrial base, reflecting a joint commitment to innovation and operational excellence. By adopting next-generation AI technologies, HII and C3 AI aim to strengthen the U.S. Navy’s operational readiness and maintain maritime superiority.
