HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division has been awarded a $9.6 billion multi-ship procurement contract to construct three San Antonio-class (LPD 17) amphibious ships and an America-class (LHA 6) large-deck amphibious ship for the U.S. Navy. This marks the first multi-ship procurement of its kind for amphibious ships, ensuring the continued production of vital military vessels.
Significant Contract for Amphibious Ships
The contract, which includes the construction of LPDs 33, 34, and 35 as well as LHA 10, provides stability for Ingalls’ workforce and supplier partners across 39 states. This contract supports the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps mission to maintain a fleet of 31 amphibious ships, crucial for a wide range of operations.
Ingalls’ Proven Track Record
Ingalls has delivered 13 San Antonio-class ships and 15 large-deck amphibious ships to the U.S. Navy. The shipyard is currently constructing the Bougainville (LHA 8), Fallujah (LHA 9), and two Flight II LPDs, Harrisburg (LPD 30) and Pittsburgh (LPD 31), showcasing its continued leadership in building combat-ready ships.
