Höegh Autoliners has just welcomed the Höegh Starlight into its growing Aurora Class fleet. Each ship in this impressive class can carry up to 9,100 CEU and is recognised as one of the largest and most environmentally friendly car carriers currently in operation, reports Safety4Sea.
Advanced Green Technologies on Board
The Aurora Class is equipped with multi-fuel engines that are ready for LNG and can be converted to use zero-carbon ammonia. Plus, they feature reinforced decks designed for electric vehicles across all 14 levels. These vessels also come with shore-power readiness and the necessary infrastructure for solar panels.
Sustainability Declared as Core Standard
“Although we’ve taken delivery six times in quick concession over the past one and a half years, this isn’t just another delivery. It is a clear signal to the industry, to our customers and our partners that sustainability isn’t an aspiration. It’s our standard,” the company stated on LinkedIn.
Growing Modern Fleet Over 18 Months
In just 18 months, Höegh Autoliners has added six new vessels to its fleet, showcasing a swift transition to greener operations. The Höegh Starlight and its sister ships are set to kick off global commercial operations, prioritising efficiency and environmental performance.
Seventh Aurora Class Vessel Delivered
This latest addition marks the seventh Aurora Class ship under the company’s long-term strategy. “Huge credit to everyone involved, from the shipyard to crew and for every single Höegh Autoliner who contributed in making this possible and for continuing to deliver on our promise to future generations: A better, cleaner and greener tomorrow,“ the company noted.
Industry First in Ammonia Engine Orders
Recently, Höegh Autoliners made history by placing the first-ever order for dual-fuel ammonia engines in the pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) segment, highlighting its commitment to achieving zero-carbon operations.
