Authorities in Portugal are investigating an armed attack on a cargo ship off the Algarve, where two crew members were briefly held hostage before being released by the Navy. The incident is being examined for potential connections to international drug trafficking, according to Portugal Resident.

The vessel, sailing under a foreign flag, had departed from northern Spain and was bound for southern Spain when it was intercepted in open waters. Reports indicate that at least two crew members were confined in the engine room, though their condition has not yet been confirmed. In response, the Portuguese Navy deployed several units, including a helicopter carrying a special boarding team prepared to secure the ship. Rescue boats have also been positioned nearby to provide immediate assistance if required. The vessel remains about 10 kilometers off the coast of Lagos as operations continue.
