China’s Huarun Dadong Dockyard Co., Ltd. (HRDD) has signed a significant retrofitting contract with Greek shipowner Sahara World Carrier Shipmanagement for the Century floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel. The agreement marks another milestone in HRDD’s growing expertise in high-end offshore conversion projects.
Extensive Retrofit Project for the Century
The Century is a 20-year-old oil tanker classed by Bureau Veritas, measuring 274.2 meters in length, 48 meters in width, and 22.4 meters in depth. The comprehensive retrofitting project, set to begin on November 20, 2025, will span approximately five and a half months.
The scope of work includes both routine maintenance and several complex, high-technology conversion tasks. Among the major additions are a helicopter platform, deck stowage platform, quick release device, LACT module, and upgraded living quarters. These enhancements will substantially improve the vessel’s operational efficiency, safety, and onboard comfort for crew members.
