HTM Marks First Biofuel Bunkering Operation With B30 Supply To Mount Kibo

Hercules Tanker Management (HTM), a shipping venture led by Peninsula CEO John A. Bassadone, has taken a significant step toward maritime decarbonisation. On 29 April, HTM announced that its tanker Mount Kibo successfully received B30 biofuel bunkers from Hercules Sky, another HTM-owned vessel operated by Peninsula. This marks the first-ever biofuel supply operation within HTM’s fleet and reinforces its commitment to sustainable shipping.

A Milestone in HTM’s Green Fuel Journey

The operation took place in the Strait of Gibraltar, where Hercules Sky supplied B30— a blend containing 30% biofuel— to Mount Kibo. This was not only a logistical success but also a landmark event for HTM as it embraces cleaner fuel alternatives. The move showcases HTM’s growing role in the low-carbon transition of maritime operations, and its capability to manage and supply biofuels internally.

Supporting Global Maritime Decarbonisation Goals

HTM linked this initiative to recent developments at the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 83), which discussed fuel standards and emission pricing mechanisms to support global maritime decarbonisation. The biofuel bunkering aligns with FuelEU Maritime Regulation, encouraging the use of renewable and low-carbon fuels. By using B30, HTM is actively contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, in line with international environmental standards.

HTM’s Broader Vision and Strategic Alignment with Peninsula

Launched in September 2024, HTM is the maritime arm of Peninsula, one of the world’s leading marine fuel suppliers. With this biofuel initiative, HTM demonstrates its synergy with Peninsula’s larger sustainability goals. It also reflects a proactive approach to adopting clean energy technologies, not only to comply with regulations but to lead by example in the sector.
