Hudong-Zhonghua’s Milestone: Launching a China-Made LNG Bunkering Ship

In a notable achievement, Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua, operating under the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has unveiled a groundbreaking 14,000 cubic meter LNG bunkering vessel. Ordered by Anhui Changjiang LNG, an operator of the Wuhu LNG Terminal, the vessel sets sail into a new era of eco-friendly maritime solutions.

Scheduled for launch on January 24, 2024, the LNG bunkering ship is now poised to enter a crucial phase of sea trials before its anticipated delivery in August this year. Classified by the China Classification Society (CCS), the vessel boasts impressive dimensions, measuring 130 meters in total length, with a molded width of 23.60 meters and a molded depth of 15 meters.

Innovative Design and Capabilities: Redefining LNG Bunkering

Hudong-Zhonghua’s LNG bunkering vessel is characterized by its innovative B-type containment system, a design achievement that reflects the shipbuilder’s commitment to cutting-edge solutions. Beyond its technological prowess, the vessel is equipped to provide both LNG refueling and transportation services, seamlessly connecting river and sea routes.

The order for this advanced vessel was placed in 2022, tailored to meet the specific requirements of Anhui Changjiang LNG. The strategic initiative, known as the Gasification of the Yangtze River, aims to revolutionize shipping practices along the river. By transitioning from traditional heavy oil and diesel to LNG, the strategy aligns with environmental goals, significantly reducing emissions from maritime activities.

A Green Vision for the Yangtze: Transforming Maritime Emissions

As part of the broader Gasification of the Yangtze River strategy, the newly launched LNG bunkering vessel plays a pivotal role in advancing cleaner and more sustainable shipping practices. The vessel’s specialized design and dual capabilities position it as a key player in China’s ongoing efforts to minimize the environmental impact of maritime transportation. The successful launch marks a significant milestone in the country’s commitment to a greener and more sustainable future for its waterways.
