Last week nearly 100 people fell ill because of a stomach bug outbreak aboard the Disney Wonder cruise ship.  The affected includes 92 passengers and 5 crew members, with many suffering from vomiting – following its departure from Miami last Wednesday.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been called in to investigate the reason for the illness.  The Disney Cruise Lines immediately closed its self-service buffet and ice cream stations after the illness began to spread.  The company also started to clean the handrails and other common areas.

A Disney spokesperson reported to have said, “Our primary focus was on taking care of our guests and crew.  We have a comprehensive plan that outlines protocols for managing this kind of situation and closely follow CDC guidelines for preventing the spread of common stomach-related illnesses,”

The affected passengers were confined to their rooms for 24 hours and cruise activities weren’t affected.  The primary symptom was vomiting.

There were around 2,700 passengers and nearly 1,000 crew members on board.
