Hungary has started building its own port in Trieste, Italy, on the Adriatic Sea, according to an announcement by a Hungarian government official.

Boosting Economic Activity

Hungary has begun constructing a new port in northern Italy, aiming for full operation by 2028. The project involves building a substantial section of seawall and a 50,000 cubic meter fill on Hungarian state-owned land. A 30-hectare area will be developed into a logistics center to support maritime operations.

The Hungarian State Secretary emphasized the importance of this project for Hungarian exporters, citing discussions with Italian government representatives, including Deputy Minister Edoardo Rixi. The port is intended to provide Hungary, a major global exporter, with direct access to global supply chains, reducing its reliance on other nations and boosting economic activity. The goal is to create jobs and enhance the efficiency of Hungarian exports.
