On June 23, a container ship allided against the Palmrain bridge due to low hydraulic power.
What happened?
The vessel ‘Alorba II’ was enroute from Basel loaded with containers and before passing the Palmain bridge lost its hydraulic power and allided with the bridge.
Wheelhouse damaged
The resulting allision destroyed the wheelhouse and captain escaped with glass splinter injuries. The ship is currently anchored at the height of the port Nord on the French river side.
Rescue barge dispatched
After the captain issued a distressed signal a barge was dispatched to shift the vessel to the German river side and moored at the shore.
An operation center was established in the port of Weil. The fire rescue transferred the injured master ashore where he was medically treated.
Damage assessed
The Palmrain Bridge was closed for traffic by the police until assessment and investigation has been carried out.
