Hyundai Glovis Partners With SK Gas To Build LNG Bunkering Ecosystem In South Korea

9

Hyundai Glovis has signed a contract with SK Gas’ subsidiary Eco Marine Fuel Solution to secure liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker fuel in South Korea’s southeastern region. The partnership will support Hyundai Glovis’ growing fleet of LNG dual-fuel Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) as part of its broader carbon neutrality strategy.

Expanding LNG Dual-Fuel Fleet

Hyundai Glovis began introducing LNG dual-fuel PCTCs in 2023, starting with five vessels, and plans to expand its fleet to over 30 by 2028. The company emphasized that securing LNG fuel supply and bunkering routes is essential to ensuring the smooth operation of these low-carbon vessels, which operate on routes connecting the Far East with Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.

Building a Southeastern LNG Bunkering Hub

Under the agreement, SK Gas will establish LNG bunkering infrastructure in the southeastern region, including Ulsan, a key port for car carrier operations. Eco Marine Fuel Solutions will provide LNG bunkering vessels to supply Hyundai Glovis’ fleet during port calls, creating a regional LNG bunkering ecosystem. This will allow Glovis’ dual-fuel PCTCs to operate efficiently while reducing carbon emissions across international trade routes.

Hyundai Glovis underscored that achieving carbon neutrality is a pressing priority for sustainable growth. By collaborating with SK Gas to develop LNG bunkering infrastructure and expanding its LNG dual-fuel fleet, the company is taking concrete steps toward decarbonization and strengthening its role in the global green shipping transition.
