The recent release of the Blue Book package signifies a continued commitment from IACS to enhance technical support for the shipping industry through advancements in technology, innovation, and research and development across both classification and statutory domains, reports IACS.
The Blue Book
The IACS Blue Book is an electronic library that encompasses all technical resolutions adopted by the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). It serves as the primary reference work for the association, containing all previous revisions of IACS publications and historical data.
The Blue Book outlines key aspects of IACS’s work, including:
IACS Unified Requirements: Incorporated by IACS members into their Rules.
Unified Interpretations of IMO convention requirements: Applied uniformly by IACS Members when acting on behalf of authorizing flag Administrations.
Procedural Requirements: Governing practices among IACS Members.
Recommendations: Advice offered to the marine industry on matters beyond Class requirements.
Quality Documents: Including QSCS (IACS’ Quality System Certification Scheme) descriptions, quality management system requirements, and audit requirements.
IACS Charter and Procedures: Defining the purpose, aim, and working procedures of the Association.
These publications are valuable resources for a wide range of stakeholders in the maritime industry, including ship designers, consultants, shipbuilders, Classification Societies, ship-owners, shipbrokers, insurers, Associations, Accredited Certification Bodies, flag States, Port State Control, and the shipping industry as a whole.
