IBIA – the International bunker industry association is likely to form a sub-committee of bunker surveyors. This sub-committee is all set to help bunker surveyors transition to mass flow meter bunkering when it becomes mandatory on 1st January next year and this subcommittee will release a standard operating procedures for bunker surveyors in September this year.
S&P Global Platts said in May, that a draft copy as witnessed contained the operating procedure where a detailed list of checks and documentation for the pre-delivery, delivery and post-delivery of bunker fuel via mass flow meters.
Sources said IBIA’s operating procedures for bunker surveyors will complement Singapore’s TR 48:2015, bunker mass flow metering technical reference and IBIA’s code of practice for bunkering SS 600:2014.
The use of mass flow meters aims to reduce the number of disputes that are usually associated in using the current manual tank gaging or sounding method of measuring the quantity of bunkers delivered or received.
