International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) has been recognized as the Philippines’ top company for intangible asset intensity in the 2025 Global Innovation Index. The ranking highlights the growing role of non-physical assets such as intellectual property, digital systems, brand reputation, and expertise in driving long-term competitiveness in the global port industry.

ICTSI’s Intangible Strengths

According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which compiles the index, ICTSI achieved a score of 85.94 percent based on Brand Finance’s report. This means that nearly nine out of every ten pesos of its market capitalization comes from intangible assets.

These include proprietary systems, trade secrets, customer relationships, long-term port concessions, and a strong brand reputation. By combining advanced digital systems with physical port infrastructure, ICTSI has built a globally competitive model. The company currently operates 33 terminals in 19 countries, showcasing the reach of its expertise and network.

Philippines’ Rising Innovation Performance

The recognition of ICTSI comes as the Philippines climbs to its highest Global Innovation Index position in recent years, ranking 50th out of 139 economies, up from 53rd in 2024. Among lower middle-income economies, the Philippines now ranks third.

The report highlights strong results in knowledge and technology outputs, where the country placed 38th worldwide, supported by growth in high-tech exports, venture capital activity, and digital adoption. WIPO emphasized that the Philippines continues to perform above expectations for its income level, reflecting resilience and progress in innovation-led development.

ICTSI’s top ranking underscores the crucial role of intangible assets in driving modern business success and national competitiveness. By leveraging intellectual property, operational expertise, and international partnerships alongside its port infrastructure, ICTSI not only strengthens its own position but also contributes to the Philippines’ rising profile in the global innovation landscape.
