Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has successfully delivered ULTRA UNITY, a 64,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) Handymax bulk carrier constructed at Iwagi Zosen Co., Ltd. The newly built vessel exemplifies Imabari’s commitment to sustainable and high-performance ship design, combining operational versatility with advanced environmental features.

Advanced Cargo Capabilities and Performance

The ULTRA UNITY is engineered to handle a diverse range of bulk cargoes such as grain, coal, ore, cement, steel coils, and long steel. Its cargo holds include both topside and hopper tanks, enhancing flexibility for multiple cargo types.

Four deck cranes and wide folding-type hatch covers improve operational efficiency and make loading and unloading faster. The ship also complies with international standards like IMSBC and IMDG Codes, ensuring the safe transport of hazardous materials.

Propulsion efficiency is another highlight. The vessel features a high-efficiency propeller, low-friction hull paint, and various energy-saving devices, allowing a service speed of approximately 14 knots. These innovations significantly boost propulsion performance and reduce fuel consumption.

Sustainability and Environmental Compliance

ULTRA UNITY fully meets international environmental regulations, including MARPOL and the Ballast Water Management Convention. It exceeds Phase 2 CO₂ emission requirements and already aligns with upcoming Phase 3 standards.
The vessel also includes an advanced ballast water treatment system and adheres to the Ship Recycling Convention, reinforcing Imabari’s focus on green shipbuilding and responsible disposal practices.

The ship’s specifications length 199.98 meters, width 32.24 meters, and depth 19.30 meters highlight its optimal balance of capacity and performance. With a gross tonnage of 36,278 and Panama registry under Class NK, ULTRA UNITY embodies the next generation of eco-efficient bulk carriers.

Imabari Shipbuilding’s ULTRA UNITY stands as a testament to the company’s dedication to innovation, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence. By combining fuel efficiency, regulatory compliance, and cargo versatility, the vessel strengthens Imabari’s position as a global leader in sustainable maritime engineering.
