  • Imabari Shipbuilding delivers ONE STRENGTH, a 13,900 TEU vessel for Ocean Network Express.
  • The ship is designed for high efficiency, with energy-saving devices and low-friction hull paint cutting fuel use.
  • Compliance features include hybrid scrubbers, exhaust gas recirculation, and ballast water treatment systems.
  • Future-ready with Approval in Principle (AIP) for methanol and ammonia fuel conversion, plus CO2 capture support.

Imabari Shipbuilding has handed over ONE STRENGTH, a next-generation container vessel with a capacity of 13,900 TEU, to Ocean Network Express (ONE). Built at the company’s Marugame Headquarters and sailing under the Singapore flag, the vessel highlights advanced efficiency and environmental features, according to Container News.

ONE STRENGTH is capable of carrying up to 13,932 TEU, including a large number of refrigerated containers both in the hold and on deck. It is equipped with four lashing bridges and complies with the IMDG Code for hazardous cargo. The vessel’s hull was designed for optimal efficiency at service speeds, supported by energy-saving devices, a twist rudder, and low-friction hull paint.

These innovations reduce its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) by about 60% compared to the baseline. A bow wind cover improves performance, while hybrid scrubbers and an exhaust gas recirculation system ensure compliance with global SOx and NOx emission standards. Ballast water treatment systems and recycling-ready inventory lists add further sustainability measures. Future-ready features include Approval in Principle (AIP) for methanol and ammonia fuel conversion, as well as compatibility with CO2 capture systems.
