According to an article published in The Fiji Times, the International Maritime Organisation has reinforced that human resources overseeing ship navigation and the maritime industry need to be well versed with the current developments of technologies in these areas
Value of Human Element
This is an issue highlighted by International Maritime Organization secretary-general Kitack Lim who said he wanted to emphasise on the value of human resources, partricularly with maritime workers who were dealing with technological developments, navigation of ships, and the operation of shipping companies in the maritime industry.
“Human element and its value is the most important,” Mr Lim said.

Infrastructure and Transport Minister Jone Usamate said the Pacific Island States had re-positioned themselves as ‘large ocean States’ rather than small island States.
