Impellers made from Simsite can outlive the pumps they are fitted in, according to customer feedback supplied by Sims Pump Valve Co president John Kozel.
Mr Kozel provided Tanker Shipping & Trade with an email he received in January from a port authority that uses a number of shore-based pumps and has used Simsite impellers in them since 2003. “In some cases where the original pumps we installed them in have reached their full service life, we have transferred the impellers into newer pumps,” the purchasing manager for the authority reported.
Ship operators can enjoy similar benefits, Mr Kozel believes. Customers save money from energy savings and operating costs, he said, with maintenance expenses just 10 per cent as much as for a traditional metallic pump. This is in part because components made from the material are lighter than bronze or stainless steel equivalents, causing less shaft deflection and vibration.
Mr Kozel also supplied an email from a large tanker operator whose superintendent had remarked that the lower weight reduces the electrical load on motors.
A key point that Mr Kozel makes is that Sims Pumps are engineered to match the customer’s specific operating point. As a result, this becomes “the best efficiency point for every Sims Pump,” he told Tanker Shipping & Trade.
