India Issues Maritime Advisory Amid Escalating Iran-Israel Conflict

The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) has issued a safety advisory to Indian seafarers and Indian-flagged vessels operating in Iranian ports or transiting through the Strait of Hormuz, in light of Israel’s reported military strikes in Iran.

The advisory urges all stakeholders to exercise heightened caution, avoid unnecessary movement, and strictly follow local safety protocols. Seafarers have also been advised to remain vigilant as the security situation in West Asia continues to deteriorate.

India Calls for Restraint and Dialogue

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also expressed serious concern over the rising tensions, confirming that Israel has carried out airstrikes on multiple locations in Iran, possibly including sensitive nuclear sites.

“We are deeply concerned at the recent developments between Iran and Israel. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation, including reports related to attacks on nuclear sites,” the MEA stated.

India emphasized its friendly relations with both countries and reaffirmed its willingness to extend all possible support to promote peace in the region.

Strategic Importance of the Strait of Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime chokepoint through which nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil trade passes. Any disruption in this region could have significant consequences for global energy security, freight movement, and crew safety.

Given the high stakes involved, the Indian government is closely monitoring the situation and may issue further updates to safeguard its strategic and commercial maritime interests.
