A serious fire broke out on an oil tanker on June 29 while it was making its way from India to Oman. The fire started in the engine room, causing a total power failure and leaving the ship adrift in the Gulf of Oman. At the time, there were fourteen Indian crew members on board, reports Marine Insight.
Indian Navy Steps In Quickly
An Indian Navy warship, already in the area for maritime security, quickly sprang into action after receiving a distress call. They transferred personnel and firefighting equipment to the stricken vessel using boats and a helicopter.
Teamwork to Tame the Flames
A group of 13 naval personnel teamed up with 5 crew members from the tanker to fight the fire. Official reports indicate that the fire’s intensity has decreased significantly, but efforts are still underway to completely put it out and ensure the vessel’s safety.
Second Maritime Firefighting Operation This Month
This incident marks the second time in just a few weeks that the Indian Navy has stepped in to help a distressed vessel. Earlier this month, naval forces responded to a major fire on a cargo ship off the coast of Kerala following a container explosion. Despite challenging weather conditions, a salvage team deployed by helicopter managed to start firefighting efforts and stabilize the situation.
