AVTL is gearing up to develop a brownfield ammonia terminal on its current site in Pipavav. This marks a groundbreaking moment as it will be India’s very first independent ammonia storage terminal, a significant step forward for the nation’s energy and industrial framework, reports Vopak.

Supporting Ammonia Imports and Fertiliser Demand

The new terminal is designed to streamline ammonia imports, catering to India’s vast fertiliser market. Ammonia is essential not just for agriculture but also serves as a hydrogen carrier, making it a vital player in the shifting energy landscape.

Enabling the Energy Transition and Green Ammonia Exports

Looking ahead, this facility will also pave the way for green ammonia exports, fitting perfectly into AVTL’s larger vision of building infrastructure that supports the global energy transition.

Independent Third-Party Storage Facility

Set up as a third-party independent storage terminal, this facility will boast a capacity of around 36,000 metric tons. It’s expected to be up and running by the end of 2026, providing customers with access to international ammonia supply chains.

Investment and Funding

The total investment for the terminal is pegged at EUR 53 million (roughly INR 5.3 billion), and AVTL will fully fund the project.
