A massive container ship remains wedged in the Suez Canal for a third straight day, blocking one of the world’s most important trade arteries. Niall McCarthy reports more on how global seaborne oil depends on major chokepoints.

Suez Canal, the vulnerable chokepoints

The Suez Canal is one of several vulnerable oil chokepoints scattered around the world. The number of barrels passing through it varies by day but a Lloyd’s List Intelligence analysis published by The Financial Times found that the average volume totaled 4.6 million barrels in 2018.
