Deltamarin Ltd and Brevik Technology AS, a VARD affiliate, have joined forces to develop a unique and novel multigas carrier design. The concept weds the design of Deltamarin’s B.Delta and the new-generation cylindrical gas tanks by Brevik Technology which is cost-efficient and easy to build. The design can be utilised for LNG, LPG, LEG and ethane carriers.
The cylindrical steel tanks developed by Brevik Technology has made design and construction of gas carriers simple and economical. The gas tanks are separate from the vessel hull. The patented containment design has already been approved by classification societies.
Now the stress on hull is removed and cargo of tanks can be expanded in any direction. The independent containment system can be built into any vessel as it is. “The ship owner can get significant benefits by choosing a readily available and highly efficient B.Delta hull design,” says Deltamarin’s Managing Director Mika Laurilehto.
A highly competitive, economical and easy-to-build smaller-scale gas carriers of 31,000 m3 is already available. In the long run, it is planned that medium- and larger-scale vessels will also be provided with a similar design. Along with newbuilds, the design will also be available for retrofit vessels such as the conversion of a bulk carrier to gas carrier.
The business of gas transportation is constantly growing. Sæther and Laurilehto of Deltamarin are very proud to boost industry development by offering ship owners a cost-efficient solution and making the construction of gas carriers easier.
