New research on Covid and children shows some promise but also raises concerns when moms are diagnosed with Covid before giving birth as reported by WgnTv.
Modest but reassuring
After six months of follow-up, Chicago neurologists discovered that babies born to women who used Covid exhibited reassuring indicators of growth and development.
The Lurie Children’s study, which looked at 33 women and their infants, was modest but reassuring. Despite the fact that the moms used Covid throughout pregnancy, none of the babies tested positive.
This reassuring study outcome, however, does not happen in a vacuum. Stress levels are at an all-time high, according to obstetricians, putting babies at risk. Pregnant women taking covid are 60% more likely to birth preterm, which can put the baby’s health at risk, including hearing, vision, and breathing issues. Infected mothers are four times more likely to give birth to a stillborn baby.
Dangers of COVID
“The greatest hazard for unborn infants exposed to Covid is not the coronavirus itself, but the mother’s immune system,” says Dr Evdokia Anagnostou of the University of Toronto.
The way the brain develops can be affected by inflammation caused by the mother’s immunological response.
Experts recommend that pregnant women acquire the Covid vaccine. The injections stimulate the immune system without generating inflammation.
Only 35% of pregnant women are properly vaccinated at the moment.
At least 150,000 pregnant women have been diagnosed with Covid, 25,000 have been hospitalised, and 249 have died, according to the CDC.
The primary lesson now is to avoid being afraid and instead concentrate on obtaining protection. It’s also a good sign if the infant is healthy.
The dangers of Covid are not limited to the mother and child. Men’s sperm quality is decreased for months following a Covid diagnosis, according to studies, which can make it difficult to conceive.
