China’s zero Covid policy ‘is in our interest’, reports BBC.
Controlling covid
Shanghai is entering its third week in a strict lockdown as part of China’s battle to contain its biggest Covid-19 outbreak since coronavirus was discovered in Wuhan in late 2019.
Dr Eric Feigl-Ding is an epidemiologist and a Covid expert committee member for the World Health Organization. He says China’s zero Covid policy is “at a tipping point”. He tells Newsday: “If they don’t control covid… it could kill hundreds of thousands if not millions… this could actually break down the core social contract” and the world’s global supply chain.
He says: “It is in our interest that China succeeds in controlling this.”
