Mubarak Marine commercial and sales manager for ship management, Zia Ansari, will be presenting salvage case studies in the Middle East Gulf during the International Tug & Salvage (ITS) Convention, Exhibition & Awards 2024, reports Riviera.
About the event
He will reflect on managing complex operations, approvals, and developments during two major incidents in the region, using presentations and video to help delegates visualize the complexity and risk involved in such operations.
The first case study involves refloating a container ship that is grounded on Abu Musa Island. Mr Ansari said this project raised both technical and political challenges given the nature of the vessel’s grounding and the status of the island. A short animated video will be presented to explain the refloating operation.
This project involved wreck removal, well decommissioning and plugging, preparing the base frame for new jacket installation, and seabed clearance and surveys.
This project also required the involvement of the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury as the area of operation involved a US-sanctioned country.
His presentation will include how to balance owner interests, insurer needs, and coastal state priorities, deploying multiple asset types for optimal response and tackling regulatory variances.
