- Kongsberg-Designed IWS Seawalker Earns Top Offshore Energy Award.
- Game-Changing Offshore Wind Vessel IWS Seawalker Honored in London.
IWS Seawalker, a 90-metre CSOV designed and equipped by Kongsberg Maritime, received the 2025 Offshore Energy Vessel of the Year Award at the Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference in London. IWS Seawalker is part of a fleet of six Skywalker Class CSOVs owned by Integrated Wind Solutions (IWS) in Norway. Based on Kongsberg Maritime’s UT 5519 DE ship design, the award acknowledges the vessel’s innovative design and efficient operation, setting new benchmarks in the offshore energy industry, reports Kongsberg
Industry Impact
“We greatly appreciate the good cooperation with IWS. That we have received this award together is just amazing. This series of vessels is a game changer in the offshore wind space.” says Ronny Pål Kvalsvik, Vice President of Kongsberg Ship Design
Innovative Design for Offshore Wind Operations
Designed exclusively for offshore wind operations, this Skywalker Class promotes lower emissions and increased sustainability. The UT 5519 DE is characterized by a new double-ended hull form and propulsion system that benefits from the long time spent by Kongsberg Maritime researching and testing its design and experience in service vessels for wind farms. Thus, the reduced emissions, higher maneuverability, and greater efficiency. Kongsberg Maritime played a significant role in all six Skywalker Class ships’ design and system integration. Significant features include:
- US 255 L PM Permanent Magnet Azimuth Thrusters
- Fully symmetrical propulsion and maneuvering system
- Double-ended configuration optimized for DP and walk-to-work
- Automated transit mode for efficient turbine-to-turbine travel
Sustainability and Crew Wellbeing
The Skywalker Class vessels meet IMO Tier 3 standards and are fitted with a 2.2MWh battery pack, further improving environmental performance. In addition to sustainability, crew wellbeing has been a focus point, recognizing its critical impact on morale and productivity.
By combining cutting-edge technology with a strong sustainability focus, the IWS Seawalker and its sister vessels continue to shape the future of offshore wind operations.
