Jan De Nul And DEME Secure Dredging Contract For Vadhavan Port Development

A joint venture between Jan De Nul and DEME has signed a letter of award with Indian engineering and construction firm ITD Cementation for dredging and reclamation works at Vadhavan Port, Maharashtra. The agreement was signed during the Belgian economic mission to India (March 1-8, 2025).

Project Scope and Objectives

  • Location: Vadhavan Port, Maharashtra (West Coast of India)
  • Scope:
    • Nearshore reclamation (approximately 200 hectares)
    • Shore protection
    • Facilitating construction of breakbulk and liquid cargo handling facilities
  • Strategic Importance: Supports India’s goal of making Vadhavan one of the world’s top ten container ports by 2040

Execution Plan

  • Role: Joint venture will act as a subcontractor to ITD Cementation
  • Construction Start: Q3 2025 (after monsoon season)
  • Equipment: Two large trailing suction hopper dredgers from Jan De Nul and DEME will be deployed

This project marks a significant milestone in India’s port infrastructure expansion, strengthening trade and logistics capacity on the western coast.
