Japan Marine United (JMU) has recently delivered a new freight-only Ro-Ro vessel to Asuka Kisen, a prominent shipping company in Japan. The vessel is set to operate under charter with JFE Logistics Corporation, Baird.
Vessel Specifications
The newbuild, named JFE Kokuryu, exhibits impressive specifications, including a Length Overall (LOA) of 115 meters, a beam of 22 meters, and a deadweight tonnage of 5,026. It boasts a gross tonnage of 8,611 and has a capacity of up to 3,700 cubic meters for palletized freight.
Versatile Cargo Handling
JFE Kokuryu features a cargo deck designed to handle both wheeled vehicles and palletized freight, enhancing the efficiency of loading and unloading operations. This versatility is a key feature that contributes to its operational effectiveness.
Propulsion and Speed
The vessel is powered by a Hanshin Diesel Works 8L35MC6 main engine, propelling it to a maximum speed of 14.7 knots. This ensures swift and reliable transportation services for JFE Steel Corporation.
Accommodations and Power Supply
With space for 16 crew members and additional personnel, the vessel prioritizes the comfort and functionality of its onboard facilities. Three generators supply power for various systems, ensuring operational reliability.

JFE Kokuryu represents an improvement over the previous Ro-Ro series, incorporating a fully automated onboard cargo handling system. Notably, a side-mounted loading/unloading platform facilitates the transport of heavy-wheeled vehicles, showcasing advancements in operational technology.
