Japanese Shipping Company Develops An Unmanned Machinery Space (UMS) Check System

For the first time, a Japanese company NYK and Monohakobi Technology Institute have jointly developed an unmanned machinery space (UMS) check system.

In the past, an engine plant and equipment are operated without a manual support (e.g. at night).  Whereas the measurements have to be made and while making such measurements great care is needed.  The process of taking such measurements is called ‘UMS check’.  In a traditional UMS check, the person who is in-charge of the equipment, monitors and records the data on the paper by conducting a large number of checks.

The electronic UMS check has been designed to suit the mobile devices and it would be installed aboard by NYK in its own vessels by this year end.
