Japanese Trio Establish Hydrogen-fuelled Engine Venture

Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Yanmar Power Technology, and Japan Engine Corporation unveiled the launch of HyEng Corporation as part of their net-zero drive, says an article published in Offshore Energy.

About the launch

The launch of hydrogen-fueled motors for the HyEng Corporation for the maritime industry was announced by Japanese manufacturers Kawasaki Heigh Industries, Yanmar Power Technology, and the Japan Engine Corporation, holding 33.33 percent of the company.

Business activities

Seiji Shindo has been named the next president by firms, and the firm’s major business activities are expected to include:

  • Development of hydrogen engine (fundamental technology)
  • Development of international standards and rules for the delivery of hydrogen fuel tools
  • Integration of fuel systems for hydrogen fuel 
  • Maintaining and operating demonstration systems for hydrogen fuel engines.

According to the industry giants, ““With the establishment of HyEng Corporation, the three companies will further advance their joint development activities and accelerate their drive to develop new markets for decarbonization in the marine domain.” 

Due to an increased need to minimize greenhouse gas emissions, it is projected that in the next few years marine engines will switch to various alternative fuels. Among the various options, Hydrogen is one of the most sought-after alternative fuels because of its  “zero-emission,” in a variety of power and energy sectors.
