JNPA Reports 11.99% Increase In Container Traffic In 2024

In 2024, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) experienced an 11.99% increase in container traffic compared to the previous year, handling 7.05 million TEUs, reports The Business Standard. 

Significant Growth

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) reported a successful year in 2023, handling a record 90.27 million tonnes of cargo, a 4.25% increase from the previous year.

Container handling also saw significant growth, with the port moving 6.35 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). Notably, two of its terminals, BMCTPL and APMT, each surpassed the 2-million TEU mark in container handling. BMCTPL achieved a record high for any single terminal in a year, handling 2.12 million TEUs.

JNPA, with its five container terminals (NSFT, NSICT, NSIGT, BMCT, and APM), reported a record container throughput of 7.05 million TEUs in 2024. This achievement positions JNPA to become India’s largest port by surpassing the 10 million tonnes TEU handling capacity this month.

In 2024, JNPA also handled a record 4,989 container rakes and 789,825 TEUs through rail, compared to 4,796 rakes and 766,401 TEUs in 2023, showcasing a significant increase in rail connectivity.

JNPA recently convened a meeting with stakeholders from the logistics industry, including terminal operators and representatives from trade bodies, to discuss industry developments and future collaborations.
