The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) marked a major milestone with the arrival of the Seaspan Montevideo, one of the first vessels under the Gemini Cooperation to call at the port. The new North America Shuttle service—launched by global shipping leaders Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd—establishes a direct link between Jacksonville, Florida, and Cartagena, Colombia, further integrating JAXPORT into the global Gemini network.
Strengthening Global Connectivity Through Gemini
The Gemini Cooperation enhances international trade by connecting Jacksonville to Cartagena, a key transshipment hub, with weekly service via the Blount Island Marine Terminal. The Gemini network encompasses 290 vessels and a 3.4 million TEU capacity, spanning 26 mainline services and 32 dedicated shuttles. This offers JAXPORT shippers reliable access to Asia, Europe, South America, Central America, Oceania, and the Caribbean.
Flexible and Efficient Shipping Options for Southeast U.S.
The new Gemini service provides greater route flexibility, competitive transit times, and dependable scheduling, enhancing JAXPORT’s appeal to customers across the Southeast United States. JAXPORT’s Chief Commercial Officer, Robert Peek, emphasized how the collaboration opens up new market access and strengthens the port’s strategic role in the global logistics chain.
Celebrating Collaboration and Port Growth
To commemorate the Seaspan Montevideo’s inaugural call, JAXPORT’s leadership presented a commemorative plaque to Maersk representatives. The event brought together key stakeholders from logistics partners like Primark, V. Alexander, and John S. James Co., who had the opportunity to tour the port and connect directly with vessel crews and port officials, celebrating the enhanced cooperation and future growth.
