Jinling Shipyard Hands Over 62,000 DWT Vessel to China Merchants

  • China Merchants Industry Nanjing Jinling delivered the first ship of the 62,000 dwt ‘Mingrong’ series, designed for energy efficiency and environmental performance.

The handover and naming ceremony were held for a new 62,000 dwt ultra-flexible multi-purpose vessel built by China Merchants Industry Nanjing Jinling for China Merchants Shipping. This ship is the first of four in the ‘Mingrong’ series ordered in 2023. Designed by Shanghai Ship Design Institute (SDARI) and classed by China Classification Society (CCS), the vessel measures 199.9 meters in length, 32.26 meters in width, and 19.0 meters in depth, with a service speed of 14.4 knots, according to Offshore Energy.

Technological Advancements and Green Innovations

The ship adopts a CFD-optimized hull form and features five cargo holds along with four port-side cranes, each capable of lifting to 300 tons. It incorporates energy-saving solutions such as large-diameter propeller thrusters and complies with the Ship Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3 standards. An in-house energy efficiency management system is fitted onboard, with plans to integrate the IMP management system from China Merchants Shipping.

Commitment to Safety, Quality, and Digitalization

During the ceremony, Zheng Hehui, Deputy General Manager of China Merchants Industry and Chairman of Nanjing Jinling, emphasized that this delivery marks a significant step in strengthening industrial collaboration and innovation. He reiterated the company’s commitment to “safety, quality, and efficiency,” and its vision for “greening, intelligence, and digitalization” in future shipbuilding projects.

Strengthening Industrial Collaboration

Xu Hui, Deputy General Manager of China Merchants Shipping, praised the project as a milestone for the partnership between the two companies. He expressed hope for deeper integration of shipbuilding and shipping services, powered by scientific and technological advancements, to drive forward the dry bulk shipping industry’s development.

Recent Achievements

Earlier in April, Jinling Shipyard also celebrated the handover of the 9,200 CEU dual-fuel car carrier, BYD Shenzhen, which was built for BYD and is recognized as the largest car carrier delivered globally.
