JLC: China’s Bonded Bunker Fuel Imports Surged In Jan-Feb

  • China boosted its bonded bunker fuel imports in the first two months of this year to about 581,900 mt, rising by about 27% from the same period last year.
  • China mainly imports HSFO and MGO for its bonded bunker fuel market, JLC stated.

China’s bonded bunker fuel imports stood at 359,200 mt in January and 222,700 mt in February, reports Engine citing JLC.

The country recorded low imports in the first two months of last year as bunkering demand had not fully recovered from the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, JLC reported citing data from China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC).

Russia became China’s biggest bonded bunker fuel supplier in January – February by shipping 276,800 mt of bonded bunker fuel. It accounted for about 47.6% of the country’s total imports, followed by Malaysia (32%) with 186,800 mt of bonded bunker fuel shipped to China.

South Korea emerged as the third biggest supplier by shipping 95,800 mt of bonded bunker fuel to China in January-February.

China mainly imports HSFO and MGO for its bonded bunker fuel market, JLC stated. The country’s average daily VLSFO output increased by around 3% on the year to 42,850 mt in January-February.
