Hamburg-based chemical tanker operator John T. Essberger has placed an order for two 7,900-dwt duplex stainless steel chemical tankers at China Merchants Industry Yangzhou Dingheng, according to a company statement, with options that could increase the order to a total of six vessels.
Newbuildings and Delivery Schedule
The vessels will be built to Ice Class 1A specification and are scheduled to begin joining the fleet in 2028, with the first delivery planned for August of that year. The ships are intended to support the company’s European coastal chemical trading activities.
Fleet Renewal Strategy
The order forms part of John T. Essberger’s broader fleet renewal programme, which focuses on replacing older tonnage with newer, environmentally optimised vessels.
“We are committed to replacing our older ships with new, environmentally optimised tonnage. Four 13,800 dwt chemical tankers are currently under construction at the Rainbow shipyard in China. They will be joined in 2028 by these 7,900 dwt chemical tankers, which are specially designed for the demands of the coastal chemicals shipping in Europe,” said Dr Eberhart von Rantzau, Managing Owner of John T. Essberger.
Vessel Specifications
The main particulars of the 7,900-dwt design include a length overall of 119.9 metres, a breadth of 18.0 metres and a maximum draft of 6.85 metres. The vessels will have a total cargo tank volume of 8,950 cubic metres.
John T. Essberger added that its chemical tanker fleet is operated within the E&S Tankers joint venture together with partner Stolt Nielsen.
