Joint research on brittle crack arrest design



This era in shipping is a race to own ultra-large containerships. Many companies are ordering new ultra-large containerships with improved energy efficiency systems. However did they think on its steel structure and its properties to withstand such high stresses?

Class NK is about to carry out a Joint research project, specifically aimed at improving the safety standards of Ultra-Large Containerships by establishing a safer brittle crack arrest design.

Upon successful testing, the same is likely to be adopted by IACS under unified requirements.
