JSE’s Role And Project Overview
Japan Suiso Energy, Ltd. (JSE) was established with the purpose of researching, planning, investing in, and operating an international liquefied hydrogen supply chain. JSE is currently involved in the Liquefied Hydrogen Supply Chain Commercialization Demonstration Project, which was selected by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization’s (NEDO) Green Innovation Fund project in August 2021.
The project’s objective is to facilitate the development of hydrogen liquefaction and transportation technology at a scale of tens of thousands of tons per year, with the aim of commercialization in the 2030s. Additionally, the project seeks to establish an integrated international liquefied hydrogen supply chain spanning from Australia to Japan.
Stakeholder Holdings
INPEX Corporation joined the project in October 2023 by acquiring a 30% equity stake in JSE. Kawasaki Heavy Industries holds a 36.6% stake, while Iwatani Corporation holds the remaining 33.4%.
This approval marks a significant step forward in advancing the development of a viable liquefied hydrogen supply chain, contributing to the broader goals of promoting clean energy and sustainable infrastructure.
