Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (also known as “K” LINE) has announced that its car carrier, TEXAS HIGHWAY, has been awarded a special safety notation by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK). This recognition is given for the carrier’s enhanced fire-fighting measures, specifically designed for the transportation of battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
Enhanced Safety for BEV Transport
The TEXAS HIGHWAY has been fitted with advanced fire-fighting measures to ensure the safe transportation of BEVs, which can pose unique risks during shipping. The notation highlights the additional safety precautions in place to mitigate potential hazards.
As part of its ongoing efforts to improve transport safety, “K” LINE has developed and implemented a specialized car fire-fighting manual for all its vessels, which also applies to BEVs. This proactive approach has been instrumental in the carrier receiving the notation.
Future Plans for Safety Notations on Other Vessels
In addition to the TEXAS HIGHWAY, “K” LINE intends to apply similar safety notations to other vessels within its fleet. The company is committed to continuously enhancing its fire prevention measures and ensuring safer car transport for its customers.
The notation from ClassNK signifies that the vessel and its systems meet the requirements of the classification organization. In this case, it pertains to the additional fire-fighting measures implemented specifically for BEVs on vehicle carriers.
