“K” Line Wind Service, Ltd. (KWS), a joint venture between Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. and Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen Kaisha, Ltd., has entered into a capital alliance with SN Marine Co., Ltd. (SN Marine).
This partnership, established through a third-party allotment of shares, aims to strengthen Japan’s offshore wind power sector by integrating expertise in offshore vessel operations and internationally recognized safety management.
Expanding Offshore Support Vessel Capabilities
SN Marine has built a strong track record in offshore support for wind power projects, operating vessels such as the offshore support vessel KAIKO and managing the geological survey vessel EK HAYATE.
Through its initiatives, the company has trained Japanese crews with Dynamic Positioning System (DPS) qualifications, ensuring a skilled workforce for offshore operations. Additionally, SN Marine has obtained internationally standardized safety inspections like e-CMID and OVID, further establishing its credibility in offshore support.
By partnering with SN Marine, KWS strengthens its operational framework and secures reliable vessel and crew support, which are essential as Japan accelerates offshore wind power development.
Aligning with Japan’s Renewable Energy Goals
The Japanese government has set ambitious targets—10 GW of offshore wind power by 2030 and 30–45 GW by 2040, including floating offshore facilities. Meeting these goals will require a significant increase in offshore support vessels and specialized crews.
The alliance between KWS and SN Marine is strategically aligned with these national objectives. While SN Marine contributes operational expertise, the “K” LINE Group brings its globally recognized safety management practices and a strong international network in the offshore wind power industry. Together, they aim to deliver reliable, standardized, and safe support vessel services crucial for sustainable energy expansion.
The capital alliance between KWS and SN Marine marks an important step toward strengthening Japan’s offshore wind power industry. By combining SN Marine’s hands-on operational experience with the “K” LINE Group’s safety systems and global reach, the partnership positions itself as a vital contributor to Japan’s renewable energy future.
As the demand for offshore support vessels grows, this collaboration will play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and internationally competitive services in the offshore wind power sector.
