Kalmar has secured a significant order from Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT) to supply 14 hybrid straddle carriers to the CNMP Le Havre terminal in France.
The new machines, slated for delivery in Q2 2026, represent a strategic step toward greener, more efficient port operations.
This is the first deployment of Kalmar’s hybrid technology at the Le Havre site, one of Europe’s top 10 ports.
A Strategic Deal to Boost Sustainability and Efficiency
Signed as part of Kalmar’s Q2 2025 order intake, the agreement supports HGT’s long-term investment in CNMP LH, where it recently acquired a 60% ownership stake. The new hybrid carriers will reduce fuel costs, emissions, and noise, while improving operational comfort for terminal staff.
The move aligns with HGT’s mission to modernize infrastructure across its terminal portfolio and boost throughput capacity in key European locations.
Le Havre Terminal: A Vital European Logistics Hub
Located on France’s northern coast, Le Havre Port handles over three million TEU annually, making it a vital maritime and logistics gateway. The terminal also benefits from robust hinterland rail connections to Paris, reinforcing its strategic significance for both domestic and international cargo flows.
CNMP LH, operated by more than 550 staff, already runs Kalmar diesel-electric straddle carriers and empty container handlers—making this hybrid order a natural next step in its modernization journey.
Decades of Collaboration and a Shared Vision
Kalmar and CNMP LH have collaborated for over four decades, a relationship built on trust and technological progress. The new order strengthens that legacy.
“Our four-decade relationship with CNMP LH has been fruitful and beneficial for both parties and is firmly rooted in mutual trust and respect. We are delighted that Hanseatic Global Terminals has chosen our proven, eco-efficient hybrid straddle carrier technology to support their vision for CNMP LH as they seek to expand the terminal’s portfolio and strengthen its competitive position in the French market.” said Damien Cols, Director Global Customers at Kalmar.
The hybrid machines will support not just sustainability goals, but also long-term scalability, as the terminal braces for rising cargo volumes.
The Kalmar-HGT deal is more than a routine equipment order—it’s a forward-looking investment in cleaner, smarter, and more scalable port infrastructure. With delivery set for 2026, the CNMP Le Havre terminal is poised to emerge as a benchmark for hybrid port operations in Europe, signaling a new era of sustainability and efficiency for the French maritime sector.
