United Global Ro-Ro, the joint venture between Noatum Maritime (AD Ports Group’s Maritime & Shipping Cluster) and Erkport, celebrated a milestone achievement with the inaugural visit of its first LNG-fueled Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) at Autoterminal Khalifa Port, reports WAM.

First-Ever Deployment of UGR Al Samha

The ship, UGR Al Samha, marks the joint venture’s inaugural deployment and its long-term mission to provide high-capacity Ro-Ro sustainable logistics through key trade lanes around the world. As the primary hub for its operation, the ship fortifies feeding links to an already resilient maritime network with Khalifa Port.

An Eco-Friendly High-Capacity Ship

With a more than 7,000 Car Equivalent Units (CEU) capacity on 12 decks, UGR Al Samha is designed to transport diversified cargo ranging from heavy and high-vehicle weights to other types of cargo. It operates in crucial markets within the Middle East, Asia, and Mediterranean regions, combining innovative vessel design with LNG-powered propulsion for a sustainable shipping solution.

Commitment to Sustainability and UAE’s Decarbonisation Goals

The vessel’s LNG-based operations significantly reduce emissions, aligning with the UAE’s national decarbonisation targets and both partners’ commitment to greener maritime transport. “The maiden call of UGR Al Samha at Khalifa Port is not just a milestone for United Global Ro-Ro, but a significant step forward in our strategy of investing in vessels and technologies which reduce our impact on the environment,” said Captain Ammar Al Shaiba, CEO – Maritime & Shipping Cluster, AD Ports Group.

“With this vessel now in active service, we are enhancing our ability to provide competitive, reliable Ro-Ro solutions to global trade partners in an eco-conscious manner.”

A New Era in Ro-Ro Logistics

Tolga Emrah Gezgin, CEO of United Global Ro-Ro, highlighted the significance of the event, saying: “We are pleased to successfully complete our first voyage at Khalifa Port, marking the initial step of our recent partnership with Noatum Maritime in Ro-Ro transportation and finished vehicle logistics.

Through the eco-friendly model we have developed, we are minimising both costs and our environmental impact, while offering sustainable and economically viable solutions by reducing carbon emissions. This voyage marks the beginning of a new era in maritime transportation.”

Future Operations and Strategic Impact

UGR Al Samha will subsequently be stationed on recurring routes between key automotive and industrial centres, supplementing the increasing demand for eco-friendly vehicle shipping. This is in line with Noatum Maritime’s overall strategy to develop Ro-Ro operations and use alternative fuels.

Industry Engagement at Khalifa Port

The inaugural call event assembled major stakeholders, partners, and prospective clients to see for themselves the vessel’s capabilities and discuss its strategic position in the development of international Ro-Ro trade.
