United Global Ro-Ro, the joint venture between Noatum Maritime (AD Ports Group’s Maritime & Shipping Cluster) and Erkport, celebrated a milestone achievement with the inaugural visit of its first LNG-fueled Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) at Autoterminal Khalifa Port, reports WAM.
First-Ever Deployment of UGR Al Samha
The ship, UGR Al Samha, marks the joint venture’s inaugural deployment and its long-term mission to provide high-capacity Ro-Ro sustainable logistics through key trade lanes around the world. As the primary hub for its operation, the ship fortifies feeding links to an already resilient maritime network with Khalifa Port.
An Eco-Friendly High-Capacity Ship
With a more than 7,000 Car Equivalent Units (CEU) capacity on 12 decks, UGR Al Samha is designed to transport diversified cargo ranging from heavy and high-vehicle weights to other types of cargo. It operates in crucial markets within the Middle East, Asia, and Mediterranean regions, combining innovative vessel design with LNG-powered propulsion for a sustainable shipping solution.
Future Operations and Strategic Impact
UGR Al Samha will subsequently be stationed on recurring routes between key automotive and industrial centres, supplementing the increasing demand for eco-friendly vehicle shipping. This is in line with Noatum Maritime’s overall strategy to develop Ro-Ro operations and use alternative fuels.
Industry Engagement at Khalifa Port
The inaugural call event assembled major stakeholders, partners, and prospective clients to see for themselves the vessel’s capabilities and discuss its strategic position in the development of international Ro-Ro trade.
