Kidnapped Seafarers Released Safely After Gulf of Guinea Incident

All nine seafarers who were abducted during a recent maritime security incident have now been released and are safe. They have made contact with their families and are currently being repatriated to their home countries to reunite with loved ones.

Medical Checks Completed

Following their release, the seafarers underwent full medical examinations and were also provided with psychological support. Authorities said the period of captivity was highly distressing for both the crew members and their families.

Ongoing Security Risks in the Region

The incident occurred while the vessel was en route to West Africa. One crew member was injured during the attack and received treatment. According to international maritime security data, the Gulf of Guinea continues to record piracy and kidnapping cases, with multiple incidents and crew abductions reported in 2025.
