The Port of Klaipeda will install four shore power units for ferries by 2026, with plans to expand to cruise and container ships using renewable energy by 2028 source Engine
Initial Shore Power Units Installation
The first four shore power units will be installed for DFDS and TT-Line ferries calling at the Port of Klaipeda, the port authority said. Three of these units will be installed at the port’s central terminal, and one unit will be installed at its container terminal.
These four shore power units for ro-ro ferries are expected to become operational by 2026.
Future Expansion Plans
The port plans to expand its shore power supply and install more units to serve cruise ships and container ships calling at the port, as well as its own fleet, by 2028.
“The port of Klaipėda, having implemented this infrastructure project, plans to buy electricity from suppliers who will generate it from renewable sources – wind, sun,”
