Knutsen LNG France, the French subsidiary of Norwegian shipping firm Knutsen, has added a new LNG carrier to its growing fleet with the delivery of Mraikh, a 174,000-cubic-meter capacity vessel constructed by South Korea’s HD Hyundai. The ship was officially delivered on June 26, 2025.
Following standard procedures including safety drills, housekeeping, and vetting while idle, Mraikh is scheduled to depart on June 27 to begin service under charter with QatarEnergy. It is the first of ten vessels that will eventually support QatarEnergy’s operations as part of its expanding LNG fleet.
Sustainable and Efficient Vessel Design
Mraikh is outfitted with state-of-the-art energy efficiency systems, including an air lubrication system and LNG-compatible boilers. These features are designed to significantly reduce emissions and improve the vessel’s overall sustainability, aligning with industry goals for greener shipping.
Continued Growth in LNG Fleet
With this addition, Knutsen’s French-flagged LNG fleet has grown to 15 vessels. The delivery follows a similar handover two months prior, when HD Hyundai supplied the LNG carrier Józef Piłsudski to Knutsen for charter with Poland’s Orlen, alongside another vessel, Jan Paderewski. This steady growth highlights Knutsen’s strong presence in the LNG sector and its continued partnerships with major global energy companies.
