Kongsberg Maritime has reached a significant milestone in enhancing the cyber security of its products, following the successful completion of rigorous testing in line with IACS UR E27 requirements. This compliance, which aligns with the IEC 62443 standard, includes achieving the DNV Cyber Security Profile 1 certification. The testing encompasses a wide range of Kongsberg’s digital products, including automation, navigation, and Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems.

Proactive Certification Approach
In response to the new Cyber Security Requirements introduced on July 1, Kongsberg Maritime proactively accelerated the certification process for its product range. This initiative began with the Automation & Control portfolio, reflecting the company’s commitment to staying ahead of industry standards.

Long-Term Security Focus
Oscar Kallerdahl, Director of Cyber Security for Automation & Control at Kongsberg Maritime, emphasized the company’s dedication to supporting ship owners in maintaining cyber security throughout the 25-year operational lifespan of a ship. Kongsberg’s strategy focuses on establishing a strong baseline of cyber security across all its digital products.

Extensive Evaluation and Implementation
To achieve Type Approval certification, Kongsberg Maritime implemented a comprehensive program, meticulously evaluating each product and incorporating the necessary features and documentation. This ensured compliance with stringent security, quality, health, safety, and environmental standards.

Future Expansion Plans
Kongsberg Maritime anticipates that the majority of its digital products will receive DNV Type Approval for compliance by the end of August. Following this, the company plans to extend its certification efforts to include integration and energy systems, as well as propulsion and cargo handling products.
