The new ten PSV fleet of Kongsberg Maritime’s state-of-the-art equipment is going to be dressed up for the new fleet that Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding in China is to build for Greek shipowner Capital Offshore. This unveiling reveals the ambition of expansion that Capital Offshore intends to make with the oil and gas market, reports Kongsberg.

Capital Offshore’s Commitment

The good investment in this series of ten new PSVs obviously shows the intent of Capital Offshore to become a leader in future offshore operations. Kongsberg Maritime is proud of having played a key role in helping Capital Offshore realize its ambitions through the provision of an integrated package of technologies across its new fleet of vessels.

Integrated Technologies for Improved Performance

Lisa Edvardsen Haugan, President, of Kongsberg Maritime said: “The ships will be fitted with an integrated electrical system, propulsion, and energy controls to maximize performance and safety while running the vessel in the most energy-efficient way possible.”.

The Kongsberg Maritime electric propulsion system of the vessels allows optimum clean and efficient operation through the Energy Storage System. ESS supports peak shaving, spinning reserve, as well as power boost functions. This battery hybrid capability opens up operational flexibility where the vessel can run on a single engine or provide full flexibility on which engine to utilize thus conserving fuel consumption and emissions.

Advanced Vessel Design and Technology

“By selecting our integrated solutions for propulsion, DP, automation and electro equipment, Capital Offshore will see benefits not only in increased fuel efficiency but also lower OPEX costs,” added Lisa Edvardsen Haugan.

Partnership for Quality and Excellence

“We are pleased to collaborate with Kongsberg Maritime, a leading provider of essential equipment for our new vessels. We aim to ensure that these vessels are of the highest quality, and partnering with Kongsberg Maritime is a critical step in achieving that goal. This cooperation reflects our commitment to excellence as we expand our operations in the offshore sector”, expressed Gerry Ventouris, General Manager, of Capital Offshore

Zheng Jinzhu, General Manager, of Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Ltd, added: “The partnership between Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Ltd and Kongsberg Maritime has a long history. The cooperation between the two sides of this project is rooted in Kongsberg`s cutting-edge technology, know-how and proven track record with customers worldwide.  We look forward to further collaboration with Kongsberg`s team experts for the successful delivery of the new vessels.”

Propulsion and Power Systems

Each of the vessels is equipped with two US 255 azimuth thrusters, one ULE PM 155 retractable azimuth thruster, and two TT 2200 tunnel thrusters. All these former are powered by permanent magnet motors. The DC hybrid electrical power plant incorporates generators, DC-switchboard, transformers, and Energy Storage Systems, all integrated fully into the propulsion system and dynamic positioning to maximize the degree of operability, performance, and fuel efficiency.
