Kongsberg Maritime has signed a significant contract to design two UT7623 SEV (Sustainable Energy Vessel) multipurpose subsea vessels, which will be methanol-ready and equipped with hybrid battery technology.

Next-Generation Sustainable Offshore Vessels

These vessels mark the first references for Kongsberg Maritime’s latest subsea construction vessel designs and will incorporate a fully integrated technology package, including rim-drive propulsion, hybrid power, and advanced winch systems.

Cutting-Edge Technology for Unparalleled Efficiency

Designed in close collaboration with Olympic, the UT7623 SEV vessels are engineered to be the most energy-efficient in their category. The vessels feature an extensive suite of Kongsberg Maritime’s integrated technologies, including:

  • Rim-drive electric azimuth propulsion and retractable azimuth bow thrusters
  • Hybrid battery power system for enhanced efficiency
  • Integrated bridge, automation, and control systems
  • Dynamic positioning system for precision in offshore operations
  • Tank sounding, mooring winches, and an overhead ROV launch and recovery system (LARS)

Kongsberg Maritime’s role as a leading integrator ensures that these vessels are optimized for multiple offshore operations, delivering exceptional performance and efficiency even in rough conditions.

Olympic’s Commitment to Sustainability

Olympic continues to lead the industry’s transition to climate-friendly and sustainable vessels. The UT7623 SEV vessels represent a major step forward, reinforcing the company’s dedication to environmental responsibility.

“At Olympic, we have always been at the forefront of innovation, setting new standards for sustainable offshore operations. The UT7623 SEV vessels build on our long-standing experience in renewable energy and oil and gas, offering unmatched flexibility and efficiency. With Kongsberg Maritime’s cutting-edge technology, we are once again delivering vessels that lead the industry forward,” said Stig Remøy, CEO & President of Olympic.

A New Benchmark for Energy-Efficient Offshore Operations

The UT7623 SEV vessels will be constructed at CMHI shipyard in Shenzhen, China, with delivery scheduled for summer 2027. These methanol-ready dual-fuel vessels are designed to operate across the renewable energy and oil & gas sectors, significantly exceeding the environmental standards set by the Paris Agreement.

“We are excited to deliver the UT7623 SEV vessels to Olympic,” said Per Kristian Furø, Sales Director at Kongsberg Maritime. “These vessels represent the latest offering from our extensive ship design portfolio. They are methanol-ready dual fuel and have a fully electric propulsion system, setting new benchmarks in the industry for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. This new design exemplifies the qualities of next-generation ships through their innovative design, environmental sustainability, operational efficiency, and economic impact. They are vessels that not only meet but exceed the demands of modern offshore operations and will do so with extremely low fuel consumption.”
