Hybrid PSVs for Sustainable Offshore Operations
Kongsberg Maritime has announced its collaboration with Compagnie Maritime Monegasque (CMM) following CMM’s top ranking in Petrobras’ tender for six hybrid large multipurpose Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs). These 5,000 DWT vessels feature oil spill recovery capabilities and are designed for sustainable maritime operations.
The vessels, based on Kongsberg Maritime’s UT7420 design, incorporate advanced hybrid propulsion systems, enabling significant improvements in fuel efficiency. The design also supports upgrades to ethanol fuel, reducing carbon emissions by up to 70% after implementation.
Strengthening Brazilian Offshore Capabilities
CMM’s tender success positions the company for 12-year charter contracts with Petrobras, bolstering its role in supporting offshore operations. Kongsberg Maritime’s Brazilian operations, with a history of delivering over 50 offshore vessels and employing more than 200 local personnel, will play a key role in supporting construction at Enseada Shipyard.
“At Kongsberg Maritime, we’re proud to contribute to this groundbreaking project,” said Atle Gaasø, Sales Director Offshore. “Our innovative designs and integrated solutions will ensure fuel efficiency, safety, and sustainability, reinforcing Brazil’s offshore capabilities.”
A Vision for Sustainable Shipping
CMM’s CEO, Christophe Vancauwenbergh, highlighted the importance of the partnership: “Kongsberg Maritime’s innovative design is vital to our goal of efficient and sustainable offshore operations. Their Brazilian expertise was crucial to our tender success, and we anticipate final confirmation soon.”
As a Dutch-Brazilian maritime group with headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, CMM specializes in offshore and shipping operations. It combines global expertise with a commitment to sustainable innovation.
This collaboration exemplifies a transformative step toward environmentally responsible maritime operations, aligning with Petrobras’ goals and advancing the industry’s sustainable future.
